about us
The Hawaiian Heritage Reforestation Initiative (HHRI ) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the native plants and trees of Hawaii. Our mission is to combat the decline of Hawaii’s native flora through active reforestation efforts, community engagement, and education, preserving the ecological balance and cultural legacy of the Hawaiian Islands.

With native Hawaiian plants and trees facing unprecedented threats from invasive species, habitat loss, and climate change, our organization emerged as a response to this ecological crisis. Our founders—a diverse group of environmentalists, scientists, and local community members—united with a shared vision: to restore and protect the natural heritage of Hawaii.
** Koa Tree
Hawaii’s native plants and trees are more than just flora; they are the backbone of the islands’ ecosystems and a living testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Hawaiian people. These species provide essential habitat and food for native wildlife, help maintain the delicate balance of the islands’ unique environments, and hold deep cultural significance, featuring prominently in traditional Hawaiian practices, medicine, and storytelling. However, many of these precious species are now endangered, threatened by invasive species, urban development, and the impacts of climate change.

At the Hawaiian Heritage Reforestation Initiative, we take a multifaceted approach to conservation:
**Reforestation Projects**:
We organize and lead tree-planting events across the islands, focusing on native species to restore degraded habitats and create new forests.
**Community Engagement**:
We work closely with local communities, schools, and volunteers to foster a sense of stewardship and provide hands-on opportunities to participate in conservation efforts.
**Education and Outreach**:
Through workshops, seminars, and educational materials, we raise awareness about the importance of native plants and the threats they face.
**Research and Collaboration**:
We partner with scientists, universities, and other organizations to study native species, develop effective conservation strategies, and advocate for policies that protect Hawaii’s natural heritage.
Our team is composed of dedicated professionals and volunteers who bring a wealth of knowledge in botany, ecology, and Hawaiian culture, united by a shared passion for preserving the islands’ natural beauty.
Join us in our mission to preserve Hawaii’s natural legacy. Whether you can volunteer your time, donate to support our projects, or simply spread the word about the importance of native plant conservation, your contribution makes a difference. Together, we can ensure that the beauty and biodiversity of Hawaii’s forests endure for future generations.
